(two Giotto paintings) and nearly every major artist represented, it's little wonder that fine art is a passion of mine. I follow the directions of Cennino d'Andrea Cennini . and make my own paints etc.

Clutter and Mess

I love clean clutter and mess, but not near my work area. I can't work if tools and materials are not placed in immaculate order. My paint brushes must be clean. Preparation is key to efficient work. Time is precious! and time spent in preparation is seldom wasted. When I first submitted my portfolio to my Art Tutor, he told me that I could not paint. This statement perplexed me. He then pointed out where I had used multiple brush-strokes, where one stroke would have done the job. You don't even use your palette correctly Alastair! yet alone load your brush correctly. Gosh! what a load of fun! mucking about playing with the drawing tools provided. I chose an abstract composition, lest I fuck-up! with a figurative composition at my first attempt. I read that Raphael used to chuck a dirty rag at his canvas a few times, and then stare into it, to see what emerged from the chaos? Hmmm? Fun! Fun! Fun!
